During April break, Fairfield Prep students Anthony Cosenza ’14, Tyrone Fleurizard ’14, Robert Fumai ’14, Ta’Von Givens-Hunter ’14, Timothy O’Rourke ’15, Connor Richardson ’14, Jonathan Rodrigues ’14, Aaron Simkovitz ’14, Jeffrey Skiba ’14, Matthew Wood ’14 traveled to Guayaquil, Ecuador, on a service immersion trip led by Jairo Martinez ’14, and Prep faculty members Corey Dennis, Anthony Dotolo, Steve Nicholson, nSJ.

While the week was packed with opportunities and experiences of all sorts, our host organization, Rostro de Cristo (The Face of Christ), encouraged the group to focus more on “being” than on “doing.” It was through this emphasis on building relationships with the people of Ecuador that the group was profoundly affected, whether visiting neighbors, touring schools and development NGOs, spending time with patients at a Hansen’s disease hospital (formerly known as leprosy), or learning about the culture and politics of our host country. The group returned full of gratitude for the warm welcome received, and transformed by having truly seen the face of Christ in the Ecuadorian people.
