Christian Alvarado breaks New England 2 mile record; sets Connecticut record
Congratulations to Christian Alvarado who won the New England two-mile championship in Boston at the Reggie Lewis Athletic Center in Boston on March 1. Chris’ time of 9:00 minutes broke the 1975 state record, set the New England record, and is currently the #1 high school time at that distance in the United States. Chris advances to the National Championship in New York on March 16.
Alvarado won the 2-mile in 9:00.23, ahead of Darien's Alex Ostberg (9:02.74). The duo own the two fastest two-mile times in the country, according to milesplit.com - see video!
The senior distance runner who is set to compete for Georgetown this fall, ran a blistering time of 9:00.29, which won the event, set a meet record, propelled him to No. 1 in the nation and set an unofficial state record.
"I'm ecstatic," Alvarado said of his time. "I've never been ranked No. 1, or had a No. 1 time. This is a huge accomplishment for me and gives me a ton of confidence going into nationals."
